Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, on Thursday appointed Commander Femi Adeoye (retd.), as an ambassador of COVID-19 Response in the state. Adeoye in a viral video had denied his returnee son access to his house until the determination of his COVID-19 status.Adeoye had insisted that his son, who returned to Ekiti State from a trip outside the state, be isolated for 14 days as stipulated by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control protocol for preventing community spread of COVID-19.Fayemi lauded the retired Federal Road Safety Corps officer for his exemplary show of valour in the ongoing fight against the pandemic and made him a member of the state’s COVID-19 Task Force chaired by the governor. The governor, while presenting a commendation letter to Adeoye in Ado Ekiti, praised him for his patriotism and selflessness, adding that his action was “the hallmark of Ekiti values which the administration is promoting.”Fayemi, who assured Adeoye that his son would soon be released to him after the 14-day quarantine said, “We don’t know how many lives you have saved by this singular action because we don’t even know your son’s status yet, but we pray that nothing happens to him and even if it turns out that way, he would still be safe.”Adeoye, who expressed his appreciation to the state government, said, “People should not see me as a wicked father, but someone who believes that the nation is greater than an individual. I did what I did for the collective good of all.”Source: Punch
