NCDC Sets Up Three New Laboratories to Boost Surveillance, Others

As part of efforts to detect and timely respond to outbreak of yellow fever, measles and rubella virus, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has established three new laboratories in Abuja, Benin and Enugu as part of her network of laboratories.   The three new laboratories are in the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Edo; University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu and NCDC National Reference Laboratory, Abuja.   Chief Executive Officer of NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, who disclosed this yesterday in Abuja at the official activation of new laboratories, said that yellow fever, measles and rubella are vaccine preventable diseases and urged Nigerians to ensure their children are immunised to prevent the spread of these diseases.
