CALL FOR PEACEFUL ELECTIONS 2023Nurses and Midwives constitute the bulk of the health sector workforce, and play a critical role in attainment of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), thousands of Nurses are leaving to other countries on monthly bases in search of better economic opportunities due to adverse conditions of service. As frontline health workers, the Nurses are exposed to risk of all forms of disease outbreak, burnout, overstretched, poor conditions of service, needless attacks, violence, kidnapping, and unemployment, etc. The Nurses are called to come out in mass to vote at all levels, any credible candidates of their choice in the 2023 general elections, for revitalization of the health sector and provision of quality health care with improved conditions of service for healthcare professionals. While we pray for credible and hitch free elections, we call on Nurses and the general public to avoid any form of violence, protect or any act that will disrupt peace. Violent acts will overstretch our beleaguered health sector with consequential stress on the poorly motivated Nurses and health workers. Vote wisely, as your votes count!Nnachi Michael E.President National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives
