Diaspora Drama Explodes! Health Ministry Breaks Silence on Alleged Endorsement of NIDO Europe Faction — Here’s What Really Happened
In a twist that’s shaking the Nigerian diaspora community, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has denied endorsing any faction of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Europe (NIDOE), calling recent claims a “misrepresentation.”
The controversy erupted after a video surfaced online showing a meeting between the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, and members of the diaspora. The footage was allegedly used by a NIDOE faction to suggest official backing — but the Ministry says not so fast.
“This is NOT correct,” said Alaba Balogun, Head of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry.
What Really Happened?
The meeting was actually organized by Nurses Across Borders (NAB), a diaspora-led NGO working with the Ministry on ethical migration policies for Nigerian healthcare workers. NAB brought foreign partners to showcase migration models used in the Middle East and the Philippines.
During the presentation, some attendees introduced themselves as NIDOE members and expressed interest in partnering with NAB — but that doesn’t equal endorsement, the Ministry clarified.
Ministry’s Official Position:
- Open to working with reputable organizations on ethical migration.
- No endorsement of any group or faction within NIDOE.
- Committed to improving Nigeria’s health sector by leveraging diaspora expertise.
- Will not interfere in the internal affairs of diaspora organizations.
“We’re focused on what’s best for Nigerian health workers — at home and abroad,” Balogun emphasized.
