LBS Graduates 52 Health Care Leaders

After a week of intensive training, Lagos Business School has presented certificates to 52 health care leaders who participated in the Management Development Institute Health care Leadership Programme.   The goal of the training programme, according to the organisers, is to equip health sector leaders and managers with the requisite knowledge and resources to lead teams in various capacities, implement national health priorities and improve the effectiveness of the health care system.   Speaking during the event, which was facilitated by Johnson and Johnson in Lagos on Saturday, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, highlighted the challenges facing the health sector in Nigeria and called on relevant stakeholders to do more to tackle those challenges.   Balarabe listed inadequate personnel, limited access to medicines, equipment, human resources, infrastructure, poor financing and governance, among others, as some of the factors causing underperformance in the health sector.   She said, “The task of revamping Nigeria’s health care system is and must continue to be a collective one. The government, private sector, international and indigenous development partners, as well as all Nigerians must work together to create a health system that we all desire to see and benefit from.”   The Chief Executive Officer, Health Markets Africa, Fola Laoye, who delivered the keynote address themed, ‘The gaps present in Nigeria’s health care financing system’, said that shortfalls in government  expenditure as required by the United Nations is the reason why the country could not attain universal health care coverage.   While giving her remarks, the Dean, Lagos Business School, Prof Enase Okonedo, emphasised the key values of team work, ethics, and professionalism in achieving quality healthcare delivery in Africa while urging the graduating students to mirror the change they want to see in the society.   Okonedo said, “We believe that as students of the MDI Healthcare Leadership Programme you are indeed ambassadors of Lagos Business School and this comes with a great responsibility. We therefore expect that you imbibe the institution’s values and return to your respective organisations as change agents and exemplary leaders.”
