The Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) has called on the federal government to return the management of health institutions to hospital administrators.   National President of the union, Comrade Biobelemoye Joy Josiah made the call yesterday during the 10th National delegates conference of the union in Abuja. He said doing so would revitalise healthcare delivery in the country.   Comrade Josiah said the healthcare system of the country continues to face challenges because of government’s mistake of handing over the management of the health system to just one professional group as well as attempts to privatise the health industry particularly tertiary health institutions.   “As long as the appointment of Ministers of Health and the chief executives of health institutions remain the birth right of one profession, the medical doctors, to the exclusion of other health professionals in the team, turbulence and inefficiency shall continue to thrive as they are  only not trained for duch duties, their discriminatory approach would continue to invite protests from other members of the health team who are the majority, “ he warned.   He said the union has acheivedalot in the area of human resource development, logistics, JOHESU activities , and development assistance   since he took over in 2015 to date.   The President of the Nigerian Labour Congress ( NLC) Comrade Ayuba Wabba said the N30,000 national minimum wage was long overdue,  noting that Nigerian workers have been patient enough and there was need to implement it without delay.   He said: “ I am aware that the minimum wage bill has been passed and a clean copy was transmitted to the president yesterday. We are expecting the president to ascent to it and I am sure our workers will benefit from it.   “We are also looking at the implementation. I assure you in our normal way, we will continue to support our states; from one state to the other until everything and everybody is able to benefit from it.”   He said there was need to review the salary of not just workers that are earning high, but also bogus salaries of politicians so that both could be at the same level.
