    Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Rivers State has threatened to shut down hospital facilities in the state following the kidnap of a colleague. Secretary to the association, Dr. Hope Owhondaa Avundaa, stated this, yesterday, while lamenting the abduction of their colleague, Dr. Bagshaw Steven, a senior registrar with Rivers State government.The kidnap reportedly occurred at the gate of his residence in Obio-Akpor Council of the state on his way back from work at 9.45 p.m. on Saturday, December 10. Owhondaa said: “We are preparing to implement our anti-kidnap protocol of shutting down all facilities in the state.“We encourage members to be safety conscious and take appropriate security measures this period.”Cases of kidnapping has been on the increase since the ember months began. Gunmen, on December 12, at about 8:00p.m., abducted a woman at Road 10 Junction, Akwaka Phase 2 in Rumuodomaya, Obio/Akpor Council of the state.The gunmen were said to have trailed the victim to Road 10, where they intercepted and dragged her out of her vehicle at gunpoint.The victim’s whereabouts are still unknown.Similarly, two women were abducted at a pharmacy along the Apara link road, Off NTA road in Port Harcourt on December 6.The police spokesperson in the state, Grace Iringe-Koko, when contacted, promised to get back to The NAN with further details and updates but had not done so at the time of filing this report.
